The ultimate buying guide for an Electric Bike

The ultimate buying guide for an Electric Bike

It seems every second bike you pass these days is Electric, with such a rapid rise in popularity it can be overwhelming trying to decide what style of Electric Bike best suits your needs.

Here are some of the most common questions we get asked in store when someone is considering purchasing an Electric Bike.

Step through vs step over bike style

Step through bikes are the ideal solution for riders who don’t have full range of motion as they are very easy to get on and off. When the first bike was invented (with wood!) the step over design was favoured due to its strength and sturdiness. Bikes have come a long way since then and both options are extremely sturdy and long lasting – it’s really a personal choice.

Our best-selling E-GO Urban Tourer (https://ebikewa.com.au/products/e-go-urban-tourer) is an ideal step through Electric Bike.

36V vs 48V battery size

In our Electric Bike store, we have two different battery voltages; 36V & 48V. Simply put a 48V battery will have more power than a 36V battery. A 48V battery tends to be ideal for people who travel up a lot of hills or just generally wish to have a more powerful Electric Bike.

One of our most popular 48V Electric Bikes is the E-GO Commuter Sports Plus (https://ebikewa.com.au/collections/commuter-e-bikes/products/e-go-commuter-sports-plus).

Ampere hour (Ah)

This is one of main determinants of range you will get from an Electric Bike when using the assistance. The higher the Ah the longer the range the battery will give you*.

At E-GO Electric bikes our Electric Bikes range in ah from 10.4Ah right up to 21Ah. However most commonly bikes have either 13Ah or 16Ah, such as our E-GO City Cruiser (https://ebikewa.com.au/products/e-go-city-cruiser).

* There are other factors at play however the Ampere hour is one of the biggest factors.

Tyre size

With so many different tyre widths available it can be hard to decide which one is best for your needs. We have a few “fat tyre” bikes which can be ideal for soft sand riding or for those looking for a more cushioned ride. The thinner or more standard size of tyre provide greater agility when riding and best suits people who ride regularly on pathways and roads.

Check out the E-GO Little Fatty (https://ebikewa.com.au/products/e-go-little-fatty-500?variant=39341828472915 ) for a great “fat tyre” option!
